Gawad Alternatibo Para sa Pelikula at Video, the longest-running independent film competition in Asia, continues to celebrate alternative cinematic storytelling with a call for submissions for its 36th edition.
The competition is open to all Filipinos (based in the Philippines and abroad). Entries must have been completed not earlier than April 30, 2023, with a maximum running time of forty-five (45) minutes. They may submit a maximum of 3 entries in each category, but an entry can only be submitted in one category: narrative, experimental, documentary or animation.
Interested participants must comply with the following requirements:
- A duly accomplished entry form
- Film format in AVI, MP4, or MKV only. Film size must not exceed 1GB. Filename in the following format: FilmTitle_FilmDirector
- Additional film information such as synopsis (not more than 70 words in 1 paragraph), genre, running time, rating, director’s profile, full production credits in Word or PDF format
- Two (2) still photos from the film entry in jpeg format
- Film entry trailer in 1080p and poster in jpeg format (minimum of 2500×3750 pixels)

Participants must submit all their requirements online via this online form. The deadline for the submission of entries is April 30, 2024 at 11:59pm.
Note: interested filmmakers can submit their entries to both Gawad Alternatibo and Cinemalaya, which run simultaneously. However, if the entry is chosen as a finalist in Cinemalaya, it will be dropped from the Gawad Alternatibo roster.
The finalists will be screened during Cinemalaya 2024, while awarding of winners will be on August 10, 2024.
Winning entries in each category will receive:
- 1st Prize: P50,000 + Trophy
- 2nd Prize: P30,000
- 3rd Prize: P20,000
- an Honorable Mention awardee will also get P7,000
This year, Special Awards include:
- Best Regional Entry
- Best Entry On/For/By Children
