HERE Hackathon Manila

To cap off the year, SMART DevNet (Smart Communications’ developer community program) held “HERE Hackathon Manila” at Sacode, Smart Tower, Makati City last December 6, 2014.

Using the HERE Maps API, participants came up with location-based applications for one of the following predefined scenarios (as quoted from the event page):

Teams had seven (7) to work on their apps, with mentors on site in case they need assistance or have questions.

The following teams were able to pitch: HERE I GO, DitoMe, iCARE, DUR, TurnX, PINASaya, Manila Commuter App, Smart Places, GeoMinder, TourMe, NavigAide, CALEM, and commute.me. Entries were judged based on its relevance, creativity, user experience and viability.

An application with gamification and rewards features TurnX won third place. In second place is a location-based reminder application called Smart Places.

Top prize app NavigAide helps Android users share his/her current location to a friend as he/she is traveling, alert someone in case of emergency by shaking their phone, locate nearest hospitals and police stations, and check traffic status. This was developed by Jayvic San Antonio, Arisa Ochavez, Karl Len Dimla, Rhiza Mae Talavera, and Arvin John Tomacruz. They took home an iPad mini each, one month passes to 47East co-working Space, and Spinnr goodie bags.
