Metro Blogger, the Philippine Social Circle for Bloggers

By on November 12, 2014

A day in the life of a blogger entails attending events that span from 3 hours to a whole day affair, taking lots of pictures/videos while listening to the speakers, talking to a lot of people and finding the time to write on top of their work or school schedule. Bloggers gather twice a year to network and up their game via iBlog and Blogapalooza. However there is no formal organization or association that exists in the Philippines to empower bloggers and bridge their gap to untapped brands.

The Metro Blogger’s 1st Bloggers Night Out held at the Gramercy Skypark last October 22 was a welcome break to this fast-paced routine. A diverse group of bloggers and brands were present, from lifestyle, fashion, food, travel, technology. It was fun mingling face to face in an informal setting, just getting to know each other and exchanging ideas about various facets of the blogging world.

For those who don’t know yet, Metro Blogger is a social circle or organization of bloggers around the metro. It aims to be an avenue to disseminate information, event invitations, new products and services and campaigns that are of great interest to everyone. This is fueled by a team of passionate writers who share similar views about personal and professional know-how in life.

Sharp’s PCI Technology enhances indoor air quality while removing viruses

By on October 23, 2014

While it is true that the air we breathe outsider our home is largely out of our control, we cannot say the same thing about indoor air. We spend the majority of our time indoors, and yet we rarely think twice about the air we breathe inside. Indoor air quality is just as crucial to our wellbeing as any other environmental factors. The accumulation of dust, molds, and other gases that are emitted by everyday household activities can lead to poor indoor air quality – and you may not even be aware of it. As a result, you or those living with you can suffer ailments such as headaches, eye irritation, allergies and respiratory diseases.

Playtime, Funtime: The Top 5 Benefits of Playing

By on October 15, 2014

Maybe you thought it was just for fun, or just to keep your little ones busy, but no, never underestimate child’s play. Playing with toys may look like for mere leisure only, or even just wasting time, but actually when children are playing house or fighting imaginary villains, they’re essentially developing crucial life skills. Yes, those little moments with their robots and dolls are actually preparing them for the challenges that they will face once they reach adulthood.

But with the advent of tablets, mobile phones, and other devices, traditional playtime has been shrinking. So before it’s too late, take the plug off, turn that gadget off, and check out these five scientific benefits of play. Yes, you’re welcome.

  • Better Behavior – According to a 2009 study in the journal Pediatrics, kids behave better in the classroom when they have the chance to play on the playground during the day. Comparing teachers’ ratings of 8 and 9-year-olds’ behavior in schools with and without recess periods, kids who had more than 15 minutes a day of breaks behaved better during academic time. So let your child take that much-needed break in between study time. Let them run, jump, tinker with their toys; break time serves as a refresh button for them to restart with enthusiasm and energy.
  • All For One, One For All – Playing teaches kids to interact, and yes, play nice. According to a research published in the Early Childhood Education Journal in 2007, playing with others help kids learn awareness of other people’s feelings. Playing also teaches kids to handle their own emotions, a skill that is definitely needed as they move through with life. Socializing, interacting, reacting, yes, those are some skills that playing with dolls, playing on the playground, and more, brings.

  • Let’s Get Physical – Obviously, unlike watching television and playing computer games, playing with toys get your kids moving. It is recommended that children (as well as adults) engage in at least an hour a day of physical activity. The American Heart Association says that active children grow into active adults, thus decreasing their risk of having heart diseases or any other diseases for that matter. Playing gets their blood pumping, their muscles burning, their unwanted fat burning, their mind moving—making them a healthier kid, and definitely, a healthier adult in the future.

  • Achievement Unlocked Through Experiences– A 2009 Journal of School Health Study found that the more physical activity tests children pass, the more they do well on the academic tests. Yes, indeed, kids learn to count by playing hopscotch, they learn balance and all through building blocks, they learn their nurturing skills through playing dolls, they learn the good and the bad when playing with their superhero figurines.
  • Endorphins Educates – Who would want to work, and work, and work all the time? All work and no play will make your little ones sad and stressed. Moving releases endorphins, which are also known as happy hormones, bringing your kids into that good, happy mood. Let your little ones dance under the rain, play dress up along with their dolls, pretend to be a race car driver with their toy cars, spend an afternoon on the playground, and so much more! Their joyful mood will brighten up everyone’s day for sure!

Yes, experience really is the best teacher. Do not box your child and stop them from exploring the world—let them play, let them meet new playmates, let their imaginations run wild with their toys. When they don’t feel tied up, they are more likely to develop skills that are essential as they grow up—curiosity, creativity, and so much more! Let them discover the world, let them get dirty and let them learn on their own. Don’t let them get wired to gadgets and computers—push them into the real world where they’ll learn to respond and react real!

If you have any other ideas, just drop a comment about it and let’s start the conversation. Now, who’s up for playtime?

HISTORY HD on CIGNAL launches “Photo Face-off”

By on October 13, 2014

Calling all photography enthusiasts! HISTORY™ launches its first original reality competition series, Photo Face-off. This exciting 6-part reality series features professional lensman Justin Mott pitted against five amateur photographers. Their goal is to make use of the story-telling power of high-impact photos to revisit and explore the rich history of key destinations across Asia. See the show in high definition as it premieres on September 23, Tuesday at 10:30PM on Cignal Channel 118.

Face-off-CignalTV

In Photo Face-Off, Mott embarks on a journey around the region, learning through the different lenses and unique perspectives of the amateur photographers he’s pitted against. Challenging him are Tan Jia Jun, an events company intern from Singapore; Singyuin Christy, a humanitarian and documentary photojournalist from Malaysia; and Hoang Thi Lan, fashion and retail maven from Vietnam. Completing the group are Willy Lesmana from Indonesia and Richard Silaraks from Thailand, both of whose works have won and been awarded at photography contests.

From camera techniques and equipment, to knowledge of the local places, Mott and the amateur team battle it out in three challenges (Speed, Theme, and Extreme), with the final round set in Kenting, Taiwan – an unfamiliar place to all five contenders, and where Mott sits as one of the judges. Joining Mott in the judging panel are resident judge Kevin Ou, together with Singapore’s celebrity photographer Russel Wong, Malaysia’s Teoh Peng Kee and tech blogger and photographer Brian Chong, Indonesia’s Rodrigo Ordonez and Dewandra Djelantik, Thailand’s creative director Joey Aung, and Vietnam’s film producer Kathy Nguyen and photographer Olaf Mueller.

The winning lensman will win the ultimate amateur photographer’s dream: an all-expenses paid trip to glamorous New York City to photograph some of the world’s biggest stars, and a trip to Japan’s Canon Photoclinic.

Viewers of the show can also show off their photography skills for a chance to win amazing prizes from History HD and Cignal! To join, participants must send in their most creative photography shot and a short write-up about their photo inspiration to marketing@cignaltv.com.ph together with their complete name, home address, age, contact number and Cignal account number.
