Meralco Power Lab teaching Pinoys to be energy-efficient consumers

February 20, 2015

We are constantly reminded of the impending power shortage (say hello to blackouts this summer) as much as we are facing power hikes and told to be efficient. In a world where (almost) everything relies on electricity, are we conscious enough?

Meralco, the country’s largest electric distribution utility company, wants to help Filipinos to be energy-efficient consumers by opening a multi-purpose facility inside the Meralco Compound in Pasig City

“We want our customers to visit the Meralco Power lab to discover how much electricity typical home appliances and gadgets consume and to realize how much this impacts on their household expenses,” said Meralco SVP & Head of Consumer Retail Services and Corporate Communications Al Panlilio.

Compare the energy consumption of common electrical equipment such as TV, lightbulbs, refrigerators, washing machines and cooking appliances at the Demo Area, via an interactive screen.

I won an induction cooker after I saw one at the Meralco Power Lab and encouraged the family use it over our gas and electrical stove after seeing how much we can save.

Bring your appliance, equipment or device to verify its energy consumption at the Equipment Testing Laboratory.

Located at the second floor is a future residential set-up that demonstrates innovative and energy efficient technologies called the Intelligent Living Space. Visitors can monitor and control appliances, lighting, security and electric vehicle charging through tables and other handheld devices.

The Meralco Power Lab does a good job in educating consumers, both young and old. The staff are more than willing to assist and answer questions. Being educated helps you make the right choices, thereby saving energy and money as well as help slow down climate change.

Save yourself from headaches. Schedule a visit to Meralco Power Lab today. 🙂
