Celebrate International Dance Day with DANCE DANCE ASIA – Crossing the Movements

April 4, 2017

Top dancers from across Asia to perform exciting collaborative street dance show in Manila!

The Japan Foundation Asia Center and PARCO Co., Ltd. in collaboration with the De La Salle University Culture and Arts Office are pleased to present DANCE DANCE ASIA — Crossing the Movements in Manila, featuring a collaborative performance on street dance, hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary dance created by emerging directors and dancers from across Asia.

DANCE DANCE ASIA aspires to create new cultural currents by co-producing and staging street dance performances that encourage collaboration and interaction between dancers and artists in Asia. Over the past few years, street dance performances have attracted attention as a new style of artistic expression not only from dancers but from theater, film, and performing artists. DANCE DANCE ASIA has played a leading role in this new movement in the region.

Now in its fourth year, DANCE DANCE ASIA sets out on a tour to present three performances, which premiered in Tokyo in December 2016, by a trio of choreographer-directors — MIKEY (TOKYO GEGEGAY, Japan), Vince Mendoza “Crazybeans” (Philippine All Stars, Philippines), and LION T (Vietnam) — bringing together dancers from a wide range of cultural backgrounds in a unique fusion of vibrant artistry, expert technique, and exciting music.

This team is led by MIKEY (TOKYO GEGEGAY), the first street dance artist to win the prestigious Japan Dance Forum Award. MIKEY has assembled BLACK LIP BOYZ, a wild and bewitching team of young male dancers especially formed for this performance. The luscious traps set in MIKEY’s unique world will lure you into a dance from which there is no escape. You’ll never think dance can be boring again! Vince Mendoza has won titles at street dance contests all over the globe. Based partly on Mendoza’s life, Hilatas (The Light that Guides You) conjures up a vision of always looking forward in pursuit of your dreams, and never looking back even in the face of adversity. Witness history in the making with this masterpiece of a show that condenses a wide range of dance styles, from street to contemporary and acrobatics. It’s not about the money! As the leader of Big Toe Crew, Vietnam’s first hip-hop dance group, LION T has taken the dance world by storm. He has also produced stage shows in Europe and North America, though his diligence is not all for his own glory. In partnership with friends and family, his work is imbued with the sincere messages for building a better society that he wants to share with the world. [Team Lion T in Tokyo (c) Yosuke KAMIYAMA | DANCE DANCE ASIA]
