I lived my whole life in the city, but in 21 years I haven’t been able to explore all of it. Especially our country’s capital, Manila nor my hometown, Marikina.
Then a unique opportunity presented upon itself one day – a FREE Postal Heritage Guided Tour and Photography on Facebook. Checking my schedule on my ever reliable planner, my Sunday was unmarked and in a heartbeat I emailed Sir Lawrence Chan.
Filipinas Stamp Collectors’ Club conducts the free tour, in cooperation with Philpost, Museo ng Maynila, Intramuros Administration, National Press Club, Winners Foundation, and Department of Education every third Sunday of the month. Lovers of architecture, philately, history and ghost hunting — this is for you! 🙂
I usually research first before going somewhere, just so I know what to expect. I’ve read that the itinerary changes often and it always has the Manila Central Post Office or Philpost and the Manila Metropolitan Theater or MET.
Packing my backpack with my planner, pens, vanity kit (aka baby wipes, Chapstick and comb), a hanky and a facetowel, a bottle of water, flashlight in the form of my other mobile phone and camera – off I go to Liwasang Bonifacio.
How I got there: LRT 2 Santolan -> LRT 2 Recto (P15), LRT 1 Doroteo Jose -> LRT 1 Central (P12), walked towards the left side passing by MET and crossing the street (turning right when you exit the station takes you to SM Manila).
