Web and SMS app ‘Tandem’ wins Hack The SK!

January 17, 2015

After a very informative discussion on Sangguniang Kabataan and twenty four hours of marathon programming, Hack the SK has come to an end.

Teams were able to create applications that will help make SK a more accountable and transparent institution by use of existing web and mobile technologies.

They were given 7 minutes to pitch to a panel of non-technical judges composed of Erika Gatmaitan of Globe Labs, San Juan Kap. Ruel Sumaguinsing, Unyx Sta. Ana of Orchestrack, Dr. Cleo Calimbahin of Transparency International Philippines, Jecel Censoro of checkmyschool.org, and Global Shaper Richard Dacalos. Louis Concepcion served as technical judge.

The entries were judged based on overall approach and pitch presentation (70%: impact, creativity and innovation, sustainability) and code review (30%: readability, structure / framework use, integration).

On third place was Team Spectres Solutions (Therence John Resabal, Moses Marzan, Ahmed Masahud) for OurVoice, a mobile app that highlights topics in SK sessions and lets users give feedback by voting.

On second place was Team KISS (Ben, Jose San Juan, Gino de Jesus, Gerald Magracia, James Labnao) for Selfie, a web platform that aggregates selfie and photo tweets of SK events and engages young online users.

Emerging as grand prize winner was Team Divided by Zero (Jake Josol, MJ Pormento, Chad Gonzales, Camille Domingo) for a project gamification & member engagement platform via a web interface and SMS called Tandem! The app will be pilot-tested and adopted by San Juan LGU.

All winners received a Bizspark account worth P500,000 courtesy of Microsoft and gift certificates from the sponsors.

That wraps up Hack the SK! This was part of the Manila Shaping Davos event held at Globe Valero Telepark last January 15-16, 2015 and organized by Global Shapers Community Manila and Red Wizard Events & PR Strategies in partnership with Globe, Microsoft, McDonald’s, foodpanda, USAID, Young Public Servants, PH-LEAD and Branco Solutions & Consulting.
