Blessing of the First Bottle Center for the Aged

Sand, wood, metal, glass — basic materials used in building a house. Most of the time, construction time depends on how much money you have. According to Mr. Illac Diaz, there is a demand that cannot be answered by market industries. That’s why the organization that brought us solar bulbs using bottles came up with another innovation: the country’s first Bottle Center for the Aged in Rizal, Laguna.

In this Bottle Center, the walls were made of 5000 “eco-bricks” – 1.5L PET bottles filled with dried mud and lime. Eight hundred (800) clear bottles stacked on each other made up the windows. Doors are covered with soft drink bottle crowns. It took 4 months to build the structure (almost 3 months was spent on collecting the bottles) in high bayanihan spirit of the residents of the municipality of Rizal.

The blessing was graced by the senior citizens of Rizal and nearby municipalities, government officials and staff led by Mayor Antonino A. Aurelio, family, guests and media. Everyone was very happy, especially the senior citizens who now have a place of their own.

Who would have thought we can solve the same problem with the same solution? We get to help the environment, we also have an alternative solution to housing problems without getting into debt. Aside from the Green Revolution Pavilion built at Rizal Park, Luneta, Manila, Mr. Diaz is aiming to solve our problem with paper waste.

Thank you A Litter of Light for the opportunity to see the structure in person! Visit their website, like them on Facebook or donate to light up more lives!
