List of Activities for 3rd Puerto Princesa Underground River Day

November 11, 2016

Five years ago the Puerto Princesa Underground River (PPUR) was declared as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.

This premier tourist magnet, also known as the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP), is celebrating their 3rd PPUR Day today, November 11.

Locals and tourists alike can look forward to bigger and brighter activities such as the 2nd PPSRNP International Bird Photography Race that is attracting more international participants and the 1st Community Based Sustainable Tourism Fair to formally launch the new tourism destinations within the park.

An unconventional beauty pageant in search for an Ecotourism Ambassador is something to look forward to this year. Each candidate is asked to propose projects for the park anchored on its tenants of Sustainable Tourism, Protection and Conservation of the Ecological Integrity and Outstanding Universal Value of the Park, Community Empowerment and Development, and the preservation of its Natural and Cultural Heritage.

A Quiz Show and Sayawit Competition that will showcase the brains and creativity through the art of dancing respectively will be participated by the local Puerto Princesa Youth (open to all high school students).

Regular activities like Tree Planting, Medical Missions and Shows are also scheduled.

According to Ms. Elizabeth Maclang, Protected Area and World Heritage Site manager, “this year’s celebration is focused in making an impact, celebrating the PPSRNP’s Outstanding Universal Value, not just to the communities within the park but in the entirety of the City and hopefully, nationally and internationally.”
